Rob Salkowitz at Emphasis Added has an post on the role of the State that I largely agree with here. I don't disagree with Neocons such as Kristol so much with regard to domestic policy as I do with their views on foreign policy. I'm not opposed in principle to privatization, but I'm skeptical as to whether privatization is necessarily the best solution to problems such as education, healthcare and prisons. I think that the dogma that some conservatives hold that the free market always results in the optimal allocation of resources is not based on evidence, but on some sort of almost religious faith. I prefer that public policy be based on evidence rather than ideology.
