It is dismaying to have to post this, but, lest we forget:

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may be even a worse fate, you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

— Winston Churchill.

Churchill's book "The Gathering Storm" is required reading right now. The quote above is from that book. I have read the entire book at least three times.

I can't take this Pope, nor the RCC, seriously at all any more.

War got rid of slavery in the USA and it got rid of Hitler in Europe.

And Pope F. has just said that it is everyone's duty to fight climate change, pretty much his exact words.

But now, real, hot, spreading war is required to get rid of the hatred of Jews and Christians by the islamic world.

Jews and evangelical Christians are arm in arm now. It's a fight to the death against an immense evil.

Meanwhile the RCC is picking its nose on the sidelines.

Here comes WW 3, if not armageddon itself.

Good will win, and I want to see the victory at the end of it.

Excellent comments, Joe. I agree. Amazing how in our lifetimes the RCC has collapsed into a pile of leftist crap.

Talking heads with no skin in the game comfortably forget that peace was given more than a fair chance at high cost of innocent human life lost to facilitate the "peace process".

I'm not going to recite the history of Israel here, but we must remember that Israel unilaterally left Gaza to Hamas rule in 2005 and it signed and implemented DOA Oslo accords with Arafat's PLO in '93 only to live through terrorists' massacres of civilians by blowing up buses in 2000-3.

Now it's either Hamas, Hizbollah and Iran with its other proxies or the West, Israel and sane Arab countries. I'm sure talking heads will sing to a different tune once Islamist terror is unleashed in the West. Unfortunately it is just a matter of time before the antisemitic jihadists do it. Indiscriminate immigration and liberal refugee assimilation policies brought ample reserves of jihadist cannon fodder to the heart of the West.

Yes, Dmitri. It's just a matter of time. Let's hope that the SHTF in bien-pensant leftist locales and not in Trump country.

Surely the best reason to impeach and remove Biden is not for bribery but for dereliction of duty WRT the borders. The only two people that, to my knowledge, have made this obvious point are me and Mark Levin.

Bill,

Your comments on Bergoglio’s call for a ceasefire in instances when one protagonist is radically evil, such as in the past with the Nazi regime or in the present with the Hamas terrorists, and the other, the Allied powers and Israel, are, whatever their human frailties, are not, reveal the moral absurdity and historical imbecility of his position.

If I may, I would like to call attention here to my comment on Bergoglio and demons in response to your post “The State of Things When the Leader of the Free World is a Puppet,” in which I argued that the Benighted’s moral relativism and disinterest explains his extension of charity to the evilest of creatures, ones whose natures are “deformed by sin” (Aquinas). “Thus, evil itself is not to be shunned, . . . [and] the function of including the demons in the circle of mercy is precisely to employ them as a wedge to allow for the entry of the countless others who refuse the hard road of repentance.” In this case, the heinous butchers of babies, children, women, the elderly, unarmed men, and other Israelis are blithely included in this circle of mercy by Bergoglio, for neither the unspeakable sins that they have committed nor their pride in and celebration of them matters to him. In his deranged moral vision, all are “brothers and sisters,” from the innocents who were mercilessly slain to the monsters who slayed them. Needless to say, here, this evil man ignores and contradicts not only the rigorous just war tradition in Catholic thought, from Augustine to Aquinas and beyond, but also the foundational teaching of Christ himself when he was personally present here on Earth that forgiveness of sin is dependent on repentance and metanoia.

In the almost 78 years of my life, I have never been more ashamed of my Church as in this moment, and not primarily for the repeated heresies and idiocies of Bergoglio and his followers, evident to all but the most craven sycophants and papal idolaters, but mainly for the SILENCE of all but a few of the thousands of higher ecclesiastics throughout the world. We are only eighty years from the Holocaust, a mere moment in historical time, and yet someone dare refer to the assassins of Jews as “brothers.” This is sinfulness masking as virtue.

Vito,

I agree, of course. But on trad doctrine we are all equal in the eyes of God as persons because we are all made in the image and likeness of God. We are all children of the same father, hence we are all brothers and sisters, including the most vicious of Islamist jihadis.

If I understand trad doctrine, one cannot forfeit one's personhood (defined in terms of image and likeness). This has led me to question the trad doctrine.

Maybe Bergoglio is thinking along the lines of: hate the sin, but love the sinner, even if the sinner is an Islamist jihadi or even a fallen angel. Perhaps even Satan belongs within the "circle of mercy."

I agree that we are all made in God’s image and, in that sense, are brothers and sisters, but I think that we must remember that while in an unrepentant state of sin, the sinner, as well as his sin, is to be hated and shunned. He presently lives under the dominion of Evil and is called to repentance. The dominant modernist tendency to minimize or ignore his present guilt does him no good and encourages the association with and persistence of evil. On this, I follow Aquinas ST, II-II, q. 25, a.6).

Two things may be considered in the sinner: his nature and his guilt. According to his nature, which he has from God, he has a capacity for happiness, on the fellowship of which charity is based, as stated above (Article 3; II-II:23:5), wherefore we ought to love sinners, out of charity, in respect of their nature.

On the other hand their guilt is opposed to God, and is an obstacle to happiness. Wherefore, in respect of their guilt whereby they are opposed to God, all sinners are to be hated, even one's father or mother or kindred, according to Luke 12:26. For it is our duty to hate, in the sinner, his being a sinner, and to love in him, his being a man capable of bliss; and this is to love him truly, out of charity, for God's sake.”

>>A fatwa, or authoritative decree, issued on Oct. 19, 2023 by Al Azhar's Fatwa department, asserts:

"The term "civilians" does not apply to the Zionist settlers of the occupied land. Rather, they are occupiers of the land, usurpers of rights, deviators from the straight path embodied by the prophets, and blatant disregarders for the sanctity of the historic city of Jerusalem, which encompasses the city of Jerusalem's respectable Islamic and Christian heritage."

Needless to say, that last bit about "respectable ... Christian heritage" was included for PR points. On Al Azhar's very own native turf, Egypt, the indigenous and ancient Coptic Christian heritage is far from respected — and often thanks to Al Azhar's own teachings.<<

What part of "Death to America" does our feckless leadership not understand? We are at the stage mentioned by Churchill: "when your victory will be sure and not too costly." We need to take Iran out before they nuke us. A good part of the population there hates the mullahs already. What are we waiting for? Millions of American deaths?

Thanks, Vito. Here is the relevant portion of ST: https://www.newadvent.org/summa/3025.htm

You say: "I agree that we are all made in God’s image and, in that sense, are brothers and sisters, but I think that we must remember that while in an unrepentant state of sin, the sinner, as well as his sin, is to be hated and shunned."

So it is not enough to hate the sin; one must also hate the sinner.

Thomas says:

>>Two things may be considered in the sinner: his nature and his guilt. According to his nature, which he has from God, he has a capacity for happiness, on the fellowship of which charity is based, as stated above (Article 3; II-II:23:5), wherefore we ought to love sinners, out of charity, in respect of their nature.

On the other hand their guilt is opposed to God, and is an obstacle to happiness. Wherefore, in respect of their guilt whereby they are opposed to God, all sinners are to be hated, even one's father or mother or kindred, according to Luke 12:26. For it is our duty to hate, in the sinner, his being a sinner, and to love in him, his being a man capable of bliss; and this is to love him truly, out of charity, for God's sake.”<<

So it seems to me that what Thomas is saying is that the sinner should be hated only qua sinner, only insofar as he sins and does not repentant, but not as the subject of the sin. Whereas you seem to be saying that the sinner himself, as the subject of the sinful behavior, should also be hated.

It seems to me that Thomas could be read as saying that we should hate the sin but love the subject of the sin. At least if we are talking about humans as opposed to demons.

“It seems to me that Thomas could be read as saying that we should hate the sin but love the subject of the sin. At least if we are talking about humans as opposed to demons.”

I grant that you are the better judge of these matters and that the above reading of Aquinas is possible, but the phrase “Wherefore, in respect of their guilt whereby they are opposed to God, all sinners are to be hated, even one's father or mother or kindred” still inclines me to believe that he is speaking not only of the sin but the sinner himself. Certainly, if the sinner repents and the sin is absolved, he is no longer to be “hated,” but while he obstinately clings to sin, damning his own soul and endangering those of others, he should, on my reading of the text, be reviled. I would assume that the expression of such “hatred” would vary depending on the nature of the sin, so that it might run from mild private chastisement, to public shunning, to armed resistance, and so on, but in each case, the unrepentant sinner himself is the recipient of some act of disapproval or resistance.

Dante, at the start of Canto III of The Inferno, describes Hell as having been created from God's love, and there you may have an answer to the question of how we are to love the unrepentant sinner. Rest easy.

Thanks, Joe.

Too many say we need to find common ground with our political opponents. But they are not mere opponents, but enemies. There is no common ground with leftist scum.

>>This week, the left-wing organization Swords into Plowshares began the process of melting down the statue of Robert E. Lee that stood in Charlottesville, Virginia. The images from the ordeal contain deep spiritual significance. A profound sense of foreboding washed over my heart when I saw the bronze face of the Southern hero, glowing red hot moments before annihilation.

What the Leftists did to the statue of Lee is a vision of what they want to do to the rest of the country. The destruction of a nation’s symbols, the elimination of the reminders of its past, is a key part of the process of the destruction of a nation and its people. <<

ALL EUROPEAN LIFE DIED IN AUSCHWITZ
******************************
By Sebastian Vivar Rodriguez - Spanish Writer, November 21, 2004.

I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz.
We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims.
In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.
The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.
And under the pretence of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.
They have turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.
Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.
And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.
We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for hoping for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs.
What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe.
