In the early 'eighties I subscribed to The New Republic. But in those days it hadn't yet become the politically crapulous rag it is now. Try to wrap your head around this load of garbage:
There is much to say about these 100 days. The odor of fascism is unmistakable—and entirely intentional. The bullying of universities and law firms . . . the purposeful lawlessness of so many actions, designed to force showdown after showdown at what Trump assumes will be a pliant Supreme Court; the daily inversion of reality peddled by Karoline Leavitt, Cabinet officials, and not least Trump himself.
Refutation would be easy enough. But this stuff is beneath refutation. You don't refute lunatics or engage them in conversation.
We have a war on our hands, friends, and you'd better man and woman up. Especially you young people who can expect to be around for a while.
How much of this vitriolic filth is TDS and how much willfully perverse self-enstupidation? How could anyone in his right mind fail to see the good that Trump has done in a scant 100 days?
You are well-advised to invest in precious metals in the broad sense of the term. Our political enemies are just that, enemies: there can be no peace with them. I now seriously question whether we should remain polite in our dealings with them.
Making the rounds today: conservative commentator and gadfly Jack Posobiec attends a Jamie Raskin rally and shouts out a couple of pointed questions, and Raskin sics a bunch of union goons on Posobiec to assault and beat him.
Tim Pool has video here.
This Jamie Raskin critter is one of the worst of the worst. (Sadly, he also spends summers in Wellfleet, where I live; the lefties here just love him. I see a lot of Raskin bumper stickers around town, even though he represents Maryland, not Massachusetts, in Congress.)
Things are getting downright Schmittian. Your point about "precious metals" is apt. I fear that it really could come to that, just because I don't see how else it's going to sort itself out. History is not reassuring about how things go once they get to this point.

You were right some months ago when you remarked in effect that Trump's victory would not bring the nation together but only fuel the Left's viciousness. Raskin is a prime example. Sorry to hear he summers in Wellfleet.
>>Things are getting downright Schmittian.<< Well said!
By the way, there is no need to apologize for the occasional typos in your comments. Your writing is more typo-free than mine. Only one guy has you beat: the phenomenal Feser as I call him. An amazing character, he puts us all to shame.
I will now take a look at the video. Thanks.

We can add this to Trump's accomplishments: he has forced leftists to show their true colors.

Brother Bill, you asked about "right mind," and the answer is that the hard core leftists are not in their right minds.
It is useless to speak with them, as you well know.
As I read history I am chilled to the bone to see that the slaughter of WW2 was needed to rid the world of the deep, deep delusions of the National Socialists; and then I am chilled even deeper to see the transgender illusion and the idolatry of AI; even Hitler was not that crazy.
I think that we are really and truly in for it.

Addendum: It is even worse: A.H. only wanted to eliminate the J.
The current globalist elite think that the optimum human population of the earth is only 500 million people.
Current population is 8 billion.
You do the math.

Yeah it's a war:

"How could anyone in his right mind fail to see the good that Trump has done in a scant 100 days?"
Perhaps. But many bad things are happening, or are likely to happen, as a result of the 100 days. Some Trumpians I speak to are now saying they will accept a certain amount of pain, which they expect to be 'short term', in order to benefit in the long term. But the degree of pain, and the length of it, is difficult to quantify.
My question to Trumpians here. (1) What is the largest short-term fall in living standards that would be acceptable and (2) what is the longest acceptable time to wait before things get better?

Everyone should watch Why Trump's vision to bring home all U.S. manufacturing is 'almost impossible', which explains neatly all the costs in bringing a Nike shoe to market. Either the cost of apparel goes up 300%, or the US pays factory workers about one quarter of the current factory wage.
