I have railed in these pages against the Left's anti-religious bias, their shameless misuse of words like 'theocracy,' and other of their excesses. But this is just as bad and equally deserves condemnation. Hat tip: Michael Gilleland.

Although I would not put a Bush fish on my car I don't know about the "equally deserves condemnation" part. Criticize yes, condemm probably, equally no. After years of vile misrepresentation and slander it should come as no suprise that a counter-reaction is setting in. What should be pointed out is that while wrong to associate Bush with God no overt or deliberate lie or insult is directed at the other side. Several years ago a bumper sticker became quite popular,"hate is not a family value". Maybe you saw a few,and it doesn't require elaboration. The Bush sticker therefore is an expression against such flamethrowing spite and it serves the not altogether useless purpose of driving liberals mad. There being no hope of reconciliation or truce some conservatives have decided enough is enough, fight back.

I think what I meant by 'equally' was 'also.' Your comment raises the question whether one should engage in polemics with one's opponents or keep the discussion as civil and nonpolemical as possible. It's not an easy question to answer. But I agree that the Left is guilty of plenty of outrageous slanders, e.g. the characterization of conservative talk radio as 'hate radio' as if to dissent from a point of view is to hate its proponents. Lefties are big on dissent just so long as is it politcally correct dissent. They think they own dissent.

We don't own dissent? Reminds me of the Woody Allen joke: Dissent and Commentary decided to merge – the new magazine will be called Dissentary”.
